_Planman Technologies, a major content services provider with a global
clientele, has announced the establishment of its Digital Library
Services division. The new division will offer support for a variety of
library management initiatives including building digital collections,
imaging/graphical enrichment of content, storage and retrieval of video
and audio formats, conversion of non-digital content and data
reformatting services.
Planman Technologies is a fully owned subsidiary of Planman Consulting, a leading multi-interest consulting firm providing business services to a variety of organizations, institutions and enterprises in diverse industry and government verticals. Since its inception in 2005, Planman Technologies has utilized the latest technological advances to furnish a full line of information technology and content management services to its extensive customer base. With its new North American headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio, Planman now is poised to extend its digital services to university, public and corporate libraries across the region.
Vishal Salgotra, Vice President, Business Development at Planman, discussed the reasoning behind the new division: "While the company's initial emphasis was on newspaper digitization and various publishing services, over time we have developed a strong presence in the library community. This new division is a natural progression that will allow us to concentrate solely on developing processes to resolve the difficult choices constantly faced by libraries involving the retention, conversion, management and distribution of their current and archival data."
Raju Buddharaju, former CTO/CIO of the National Library of Singapore and currently a consultant to Planman, added, "As a library technologist, I have watched the concepts of conservation and preservation of digital content change and grow over the years. I am excited to see Planman's new focus on library digitization and preservation services that are designed so that access processes also will continue to evolve along with content and context."
